TARA RICHARDS- Principal

Meet the person in charge! Tara started with Accounting Support Services in 2002 when we were developing software for accountants. After several years, she left to work as bookkeeper for various clients and a CPA firm and officially returned to the fold in 2014. In 2017, Tara acquired the firm from mother,  Barbara, glad to continue the family business and the reputation of excellence.

Tara works with every new client to make sure they have a good accounting structure and set of procedures. Once this is in place, she will choose a bookkeeper who will best serve the company and make sure they continue to receive excellent service. Tara’s clients include nonprofits and service businesses and she takes on special projects including conversions, job costing and inventory for our clients. She is a Certified QuickBooks Pro-Advisor.

Tara’s off hours are filled with smells of cooking, dirt from her garden and birdsong from the woods near her home in Jefferson where she lives with her guy, Pat and their cat Rona.

BARBARA BREWSTER – MANAGER OF ACCOUNTING SERVICES

Meet the original founder of our firm.  Barbara set the tone for a strong and happy team with high standards. She moved from a small NH town making Frederick County her home and worked at Linton, Shafer & Co., CPA firm, while raising her family and earning her degree in Business Management. An unabashed Chocoholic, she was the well-respected head of the company for 35 years and has continued to serve clients since daughter, Tara, took over as owner of the firm.

In time off, Barbara enjoys volunteering for children’s charities, hiking and exercise with friends, bike rides along the tow path, and spending time in the garden. There is always a new recipe to try and a neighbor to talk to. Visits to and from family happen as often as possible. She resides in Middletown.

TERESA PLUMLEY

Teresa joined us in 2006 with a varied work history including a police department, real estate and job costing. Her diverse background, 35 years of bookkeeping experience, and warm, no-nonsense approach to problems has made her the trusted go-to gal for many of our long-term clients. She works remotely with several service businesses.

Quite the energizer bunny, somehow she still manages to help family, friends and church.  In 2020, she and her husband, Steve, moved to their lakeside home in West Virginia where they enjoy spectacular views and woodland creatures including one special doe she has named Buttercup.
